Lighthouse Project Update

Happy National Lighthouse Day! I first imagined Lighthouse Poster Project in 2014, and today I drew the last lighthouse on my list. There was lots of research involved in this project including many visits to Michigan lighthouses (66) and museums (5), numerous dirt roads, a couple of boat rides, and a sketchy hike across a frozen Lake Superior to Grand Island. My next task will be organizing the 124 lighthouse illustrations into a big poster and getting some prints of a few popular lighthouses. To celebrate, here are my ten favorite lighthouses.

Crisp Point Light - built in 1904 on Lake Superior - 58' tall - still active

Stannard Rock Light - built in 1882 in Lake Superior - 100' tall - still active

White Shoal Light - built in 1910 in Lake Michigan - 121' tall - still active

Detroit River Light - built in 1885 in Lake Erie - 49' tall - still active

Waugoshance Light - built in 1850 in Lake Michigan - 63' tall - decommissioned
